  21. Gradekeeper is a powerful, easy to use gradebook application for Macintosh and Windows.

You can use semesters, trimesters, quarters, or six-week terms. You can record scores for 100 students per class on 100 assignments in each term. You can group assignments into 10 categories. You can compute grades using total points or category weights. You can excuse any score for any student, or drop the worst score in any category. Your final exams can contribute to the term, semester, or final grade.

Gradekeeper is also very easy to use. With the default categories and options, you can start entering students, assignments, and scores right away. To change student names, assignments, or scores, simply click and type the new information. An extensive user’s guide is included (choose Gradekeeper Help from the  menu).

  27. I wrote Gradekeeper because I was unable to find an inexpensive grading program with the features I needed which was also easy to use. I hope Gradekeeper is able to fill that void for you as well.

  30. Paying for Gradekeeper

Gradekeeper is distributed as shareware. It is not free. You may try this program for 30 days. If decide to continue using it, you are expected to pay a registration fee. After you pay for Gradekeeper, you will receive a registration code that will eliminate those reminders to pay. This registration code will also allow you to use future versions of Gradekeeper at no additional cost.

  34. A single license is $20 and allows you to use Gradekeeper. A school license is $100 and allows every teacher at your school to use Gradekeeper. Both licenses allow the use of both Macintosh and Windows versions of Gradekeeper both at home and at school.

The easiest way to pay for Gradekeeper is online. To pay for Gradekeeper online, visit www.gradekeeper.com and follow the Register link at the bottom of the page. You can pay using your credit card and receive your registration code in a few minutes. The registration web page is on a secure server to protect your credit card number and your personal information. You will receive your registration code by e-mail a few minutes after completing the registration process.

To pay for Gradekeeper by phone using your credit card, call Register Now toll free at 877-353-7297. You will receive your registration code during the phone call. There is an additional $3.00 processing charge for all phone payments. To pay for Gradekeeper by mail using a check, start Gradekeeper. When you see the reminder window, click the Pay by Mail button. You will receive your registration code by e-mail in two or three weeks.

  55. Distributing Gradekeeper

  57. You may distribute your unregistered copy of Gradekeeper to anyone. You may include it on a CD-ROM or upload it onto a BBS or other online service. If you give Gradekeeper to someone else, you must include all the files in the Gradekeeper folder. You may not modify the program in any way.

  60. Backing up your classes

While Gradekeeper has proven very reliable, floppies are easily damaged and hard drives do sometimes fail. To avoid any risk of losing your grades at the worst possible time you should always keep a current backup of your data on another disk. You should also keep a current printed copy of your gradebook grid to provide an extra measure of safety.

  70. • Allows class passwords to be saved in Keychain.
  71. • Dropped students and their scores are shown in italics.

  75. • Deleting student or assignment name asks to delete scores as well.
